John Cabot

 

John Cabot was an Italian sea captain who sailed for England.The English hoped that he would reached the Spice Island by sailing west.

In 1497, John set sailed with 1 ship and 18 men.after 5 weeks he reached an island and thought it was China, But it was Newfoundland, Canada. He wanted to find spices but found the richest fishing areas in the world.Today it is called the Grand Banks.
